in the next two weeks that will point us in the direction for the rest of the year. we'll get numbers on personal income, likely to be down. numbers on big ticket orders, refrigerators, mike waves, tv sets, computers, likely to be down. the service and manufacturing sectors, both expected to be down. consumer sentiment down. and then on the friday of next week, it may be that the unemployment rate goes up to 8% again. all of this because of the taxes that we're imposed on january the 1st, higher gas price, the spending cuts that now look likely, and the threat of even more and higher taxes still to come from the president. it is gas prices are a real problem here. martha: interesting. you're talking about the payroll tax that went up across the board and gas prices going up. it makes you sort of think back to when the president said you can't raise taxes during a recession, a difficult economic period. it didn't make sense. this time they decided they had to do it because they were pushed past the mark last time and didn't want to say they would do it again. >> martha, that was then,

. >>> good morning, everyone. i'm randi kaye. glad you're with us this morning. we begin with new allegations of drug use against alex rodriguez. it's not the first time that he's been accused of using performance enhancing drugs. the first time was actually several years ago. the current chatter is that it happened again last year. our national correspondent, susan candiotti, is in new york. what is behind the new allegations? >> reporter: good morning. it looks like a-rod's ped controversy wga won't go away. now there's another report alleging alex rodriguez got home visits to his waterfront miami mansion from a man who ran a clinic. espn quoting unidentified sources says that man, anthony bosh, injected a-rod with performance enhancing drugs. once bosh was reportedly kicked out of a-rod's home after bosh allegedly had trouble finding a vein. similar drug claims were leveled earlier this week. in the "miami times" newspaper, it says it has a diary containing notes from bosh detailing drugs including human growth hormone given to several athletes. cnn has been unable to independently see the

strangled. so far, no word on a motive or suspects. police tell us they will have more information later today. >>> and this morning palo alto police are looking for a man who threatened to kidnap an 11- year-old girl, tried to grab her as she rode her bike. here's a sketch of the suspect. the girl told police she was riding on emerson street around 5:30 at night when the man started yelling at her and tried to grab her arm. the girl told investigators that the man yelled, he was going to kidnap her as she sped away on her bike. the man is six feet tall, 140 to 160 pounds with thin light- colored hair. >>> a powerful earthquake triggered a tsunami that killed at least five people in the south pacific. the 8.0 magnitude quake struck off the solomon islands. the tsunami measuring 5 feet high swapped several villages. up to -- swatched several villages. up to 80 homes were damaged. the solomon islands are in an active earthquake zone, the ring of fire. >> that's a big earthquake. >>> let's check with lawrence and get your thoughts on this. >> you know, i w

of us sinking into the supper 20s to low 30s. we'll talk about the slight warmup expected for the afternoon coming up. >>> we are following developing news out of san francisco. police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened just a few hours ago. they tell us a man was shot in the city's western edition. alex savidge is live there now. what can you tell us so far? >> reporter: we are getting very limited information from police this morning. that is because it's so early on in this investigation. a sergeant that was out here confirmed a man was shot and killed. he was found right over near this corner. near the intersection of hayes and webster. an anonymous caller reported gunfire in this area around 2:00 this morning. we'll show you that video. officers were out here for most of the morning. police tell us the victim was rushed to the hospital after suffering at least one gunshot wound. he died there from his injuries. homicide investigators searching for the shooter involved here. a sergeant told me they don't have a description on the person to put out. in ju
